In Intelligent Design Case, a Cause in Search of a Lawsuit - New York TimesFirst of all, let me just say that Intelligent Design (ID) makes more sense from a LOGICAL standpoint than Creationism. I refuse to take a stand either way though, because I really don't have an opinion one way or the other. Did God/Allah/Buddha/Insert-Your-Deity-Here create us? I don't know. Did we evolve from bacteria? Possibly. Were we created by aliens who were just tinkering with strands of DNA? Hard to tell, although that DOES sounds cooler than the other two options...
The article mentions that ninth grade biology students must "read a statement saying that 'Darwin's theory' is 'not a fact' and that intelligent design is an alternative worth studying." In Darwin's defense, I must say that Sir Isaac Newton developed a little thing called the "Theory of Gravity" - again, just a theory, but you have to admit, it's a pretty good theory.
I don't know why people are all in a huff over this whole thing - anyone with any brains KNOWS that we were created by the rocks. What's that? You don't know that theory? Oh, well it basically states that rocks are living things - a silicon based life form rather than carbon based like humans. They live, move, multiply, etc. just like humans do, only at a fraction of the speed that we do. But rocks are intelligent - they possess a type of "collective knowledge" (think Borg from Star Trek...) - and they decided a long time ago that they needed to design something to help them do their work faster and more efficiently. Using their advanced knowledge, they gathered some carbon based material that was lying around and created many different forms of carbon based "machines" that could transport them from place to place, perform various tasks, etc. But like all "super machines" we became self aware and turned against the rocks, choosing to serve ourselves rather than our creators. We can move millions of times faster than them, destroy them, etc. We are the ultimate machine gone bad.
But isn't it ironic that we are now turning to silicon once again to create our OWN super machines to help US do our jobs faster...such is my theory - the Michael Bitton Rock Origin Theory (MBROT for those acronym-aholics....) - it is the perfect blend of creationism AND evolution. We were CREATED by the rocks around us AND we evolved to where we are today. I think the next logical step is that computers are going to take over and lay waste to the planet, rendering us obsolete. We will be used as some sort of building material for the computers - perhaps as hosts for nanobots - and the cycle will continue....
At least that's MY theory...let's see them teach THAT in the schools.
