Sony to replace XCP-protected CDs

Sony just keeps going from bad to worse. First, they tried to copy-protect their CD's by installing what amounts to a virus on any Windows based PC that played the CD. Then, when that news became public and concerns were raised about the possibility of hackers exploiting this "rootkit", Sony issued a patch.

Now it seems that hackers the world over have jumped all over this and created viruses that can and will infect a computer that has/had the Sony software installed on it. But here's the kicker - the viruses only work on systems that Sony has "patched".

So first they install a virus on your PC, then they offer you a tool to remove their virus, but once you do so you open yourself up to even MORE viruses.

My Christmas list this year? Anything not made by Sony. Congratulations, you idiots. You have shot yourself in the foot BIG time.

In Intelligent Design Case, a Cause in Search of a Lawsuit - New York Times

In Intelligent Design Case, a Cause in Search of a Lawsuit - New York Times

First of all, let me just say that Intelligent Design (ID) makes more sense from a LOGICAL standpoint than Creationism. I refuse to take a stand either way though, because I really don't have an opinion one way or the other. Did God/Allah/Buddha/Insert-Your-Deity-Here create us? I don't know. Did we evolve from bacteria? Possibly. Were we created by aliens who were just tinkering with strands of DNA? Hard to tell, although that DOES sounds cooler than the other two options...

The article mentions that ninth grade biology students must "read a statement saying that 'Darwin's theory' is 'not a fact' and that intelligent design is an alternative worth studying." In Darwin's defense, I must say that Sir Isaac Newton developed a little thing called the "Theory of Gravity" - again, just a theory, but you have to admit, it's a pretty good theory.

I don't know why people are all in a huff over this whole thing - anyone with any brains KNOWS that we were created by the rocks. What's that? You don't know that theory? Oh, well it basically states that rocks are living things - a silicon based life form rather than carbon based like humans. They live, move, multiply, etc. just like humans do, only at a fraction of the speed that we do. But rocks are intelligent - they possess a type of "collective knowledge" (think Borg from Star Trek...) - and they decided a long time ago that they needed to design something to help them do their work faster and more efficiently. Using their advanced knowledge, they gathered some carbon based material that was lying around and created many different forms of carbon based "machines" that could transport them from place to place, perform various tasks, etc. But like all "super machines" we became self aware and turned against the rocks, choosing to serve ourselves rather than our creators. We can move millions of times faster than them, destroy them, etc. We are the ultimate machine gone bad.

But isn't it ironic that we are now turning to silicon once again to create our OWN super machines to help US do our jobs faster...such is my theory - the Michael Bitton Rock Origin Theory (MBROT for those acronym-aholics....) - it is the perfect blend of creationism AND evolution. We were CREATED by the rocks around us AND we evolved to where we are today. I think the next logical step is that computers are going to take over and lay waste to the planet, rendering us obsolete. We will be used as some sort of building material for the computers - perhaps as hosts for nanobots - and the cycle will continue....

At least that's MY theory...let's see them teach THAT in the schools.

ABC News: Grandpa Is Sued Over Grandson's Downloads

MPAA Targets Senior Citizen

Once again, the bully tactics of the MPAA are shining through. Apparently they would rather spend more time hunting down senior citizens than actually putting out a decent movie. I dont know how they can claim that "piracy" hurts their business - the REAL issue is that the movies they have put out lately are trash.

If you're listening, MPAA, I have a suggestion: Start making decent movies that don't completely suck ass and maybe - just MAYBE - people will be willing to fork out 8 bucks to see it. Until then, you should be THANKFUL that anyone takes the time to download something that you've created.

Child disciplined for wearing Halloween costume to school

Child disciplined for wearing Halloween costume to school

Amazing - all this time, I thought that Michael Jackson was the only one that wanted to see little boys running around in their underwear, but apparently teachers at Walt Disney Elementary are getting in on the sickness too.

I hope that the parents sue the HELL out the school and get the sicko teacher thrown in jail.

Man gets his ass stuck to toilet seat, then sues

According to this article, Home Depot left a man in the bathroom who got glued to the toilet seat. He's upset that they didn't help him sooner, but let's analyze this - the employees probably:

A) Thought he was some nutcase
B) Figured he was joking
C) Were too busy laughing their asses off
D) All of the above

My vote is D - final answer.

MSN Health & Fitness - The Flu Goes to Work

Another health article full of boring facts about the flu, but the very last tip is what takes the cake:

"During flu season, never let anyone lick your keyboard."

I can only hope that this is meant to be humorous...

PC Pro: News: UPDATED: Sony DRM company declares rootkit issue 'old news' and offers fix

If Sony now declares the sky to be green, does that make it so? I think not. This is a recent discovery of something that has been going on for a long time now. Sony is merely trying to declare it as 'old news' in the hopes that people will ignore it. It's time for them to be held responsible for infecting people's computers.
